Organising a spice shelf
A small spice collection is easier to use when each jar has a clear label. Store it according to the product instructions and keep it away from excessive heat and moisture. Buy quantities you can realistically use rather than building a decorative cupboard of forgotten ingredients.
Smell and taste small amounts as you learn, paying attention to allergies and dietary needs. Write down combinations you enjoy. There is no need to present a personal kitchen habit as a universal tradition. Good cooking notes explain what worked in your own pan and leave room for someone else to make a different choice.
Notebook exercise
Take ten minutes to record one detail from your own day. Include the date and setting, then leave the page open for a later observation. Keep any private information out of a version you share.
