Walking beside the water

A shoreline offers a different rhythm from the streets behind it. Watch the movement of people as well as the water: walkers pausing, families finding a bench and workers heading home. Pick a public, permitted route and take local conditions seriously.

The useful question is not how far you can walk but what pace lets you notice the place. Take breaks in shade, leave wildlife alone and bring any rubbish back with you. When the light changes, revisit a familiar view rather than rushing to another destination.

Notebook exercise

Take ten minutes to record one detail from your own day. Include the date and setting, then leave the page open for a later observation. Keep any private information out of a version you share.
