Writing a recipe you can repeat

A useful recipe records quantities, equipment and the signs that tell you when a step is complete. Include the size of a pan and the temperature setting when those details matter. Describe colour or texture alongside a time, since kitchens and appliances differ.

After cooking, note one change at a time. Avoid adjusting several ingredients and then forgetting which one affected the result. Respect food safety guidance for storage and reheating. A recipe notebook becomes valuable through careful repetition, not through a claim that the first attempt was perfect.

Notebook exercise

Take ten minutes to record one detail from your own day. Include the date and setting, then leave the page open for a later observation. Keep any private information out of a version you share.
