Packing for a slower trip

Pack for the activities you have actually planned. A comfortable pair of shoes, a reusable bottle where safe water is available, a small notebook and suitable weather protection may be more useful than several rarely used accessories. Check baggage rules before leaving.

Lay everything out once and remove items that duplicate a purpose. Keep medicine and essential documents accessible, with appropriate backups. Packing lightly is not a contest. The aim is a manageable bag that supports a comfortable trip and leaves enough attention for the place you came to see.

Notebook exercise

Take ten minutes to record one detail from your own day. Include the date and setting, then leave the page open for a later observation. Keep any private information out of a version you share.
