Slow travel

One neighbourhood, one afternoon

A limited route can make an afternoon feel larger. Choose a starting point, a public place to pause and a sensible return route. Walk without expecting every street to contain an attraction. Ordinary shops and changing building materials can tell you something about the area.

Make room for a meal or a conversation if one happens naturally. Do not assume that a friendly exchange is an invitation into private space. At the end of the afternoon, draw a rough map from memory and mark the details you would like to understand better on another visit.

Notebook exercise

Take ten minutes to record one detail from your own day. Include the date and setting, then leave the page open for a later observation. Keep any private information out of a version you share.
