A day planned around rain

A rainy day needs a different itinerary. Short distances, sheltered pauses and a place to dry a notebook can matter more than a long list of sights. Check local weather guidance and do not enter flooded roads or areas that have been closed.

Use the interruption to slow the trip down. A reading room, a quiet meal or a permitted covered walkway may offer a better afternoon than a forced outdoor programme. Leave time between bookings. Travel becomes more comfortable when the weather is part of the plan rather than an obstacle to ignore.

Notebook exercise

Take ten minutes to record one detail from your own day. Include the date and setting, then leave the page open for a later observation. Keep any private information out of a version you share.
